William Morris Lawry (Bill Lawry) captained Australia in the first ever ODI (One Day International) Match against England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 5th January 1971. Bill Lawry scored 27 with the bat as Australia went on to win the match by 5 wickets. This was incidentally the only ODI played by Bill.
Born on February 11, 1937, Bill Lawry also captained Australia in 25 Test Matches out of which Australia won 9 and lost 8. In the 67 Test Matches that he played over his career, Lawry made 5234 runs at an average of 47.15. His highest test score is 210.
