When & Against Whom Did South Africa Play Their First Test Match

South Africa played their First Test Match against England between March 12-13, 1889 at the Crusaders Ground, St George's Park, Port Elizabeth.

Batting first South Africa managed to put only 84 runs on board. They bowled well to restrict England to a score of 148 in their first innings. However South Africa's batting crumbled once again in the second innings as they were bowled out for a score of 129 - setting England a target of 66 runs to win. England easily achieved this target with 8 wickets to spare.
