First Test Match Played By India As An Independent Nation

India played its First Test Match as an Independent Nation between November 28 and December 4, 1947 against Australia at the Brisbane Cricket Ground in Australia. Captaining India on this historic occasion was Lala Amarnath.

Match Stats: Australia, under Don Bradman, won the toss and electing to bat first declared their first innings at the score of 382 for the loss of 8 wickets. Bradman top scored with a superb 185. The Indian team in reply found it difficult to get going on a pitch that was fast deteriorating and folded up for a score of 58 in 21.3 overs. Following on, the Indians could manage only 98 in their second innings despite Chandu Sarwate stern resistance. Ernie Toshack took 11 wickets for Australia in the match, which they won by an innings and 226 runs.
