Mohinder Amarnath's all round effort had helped India defeat the West Indies to lift the World Cup for the first time. On the day, he scored 26 runs with the bat and gave away a mere 12 runs in his 7 overs while taking 3 West Indian wickets; including the final wicket of Michael Holding that won India the cup.
